Adaptive Recreation

We offer a variety of adaptive recreation options.  During open recreation we offer; goal ball, boccia ball, tandem cycling, hand cycling, archery, table tennis, swimming, pickleball, and badminton.  During Fall and Spring semesters we play blind soccer, sit volleyball and pickleball at designated days and times at Demonstration Hall.  Read below how you can reserve a tennis court to play!

Join us to play pickleball every Tuesday night during Fall and Spring semester.  We may also add sit volleyball when requested.

Hand Cycles are available to check out at IM Sports East.

We offer a wide variety of drop in recreation opportunities for adaptive recreation. All of our programming is free! Just show your MSU student i.d. card. You can check out equipment for; Boccia Ball, Goal Ball, Table Tennis, Pickleball and Badminton during open facility hours. 

Adaptive Tennis

Recreational Sports in collaboration with the MSU Tennis Center would like to offer students who utilize a wheelchair for mobility the opportunity to play tennis. All you need to do is call and make a reservation during regular business hours.  Call 517-355-2209

When you let them know that you are scheduling through the Rec-Sports adaptive tennis program you and your partner (MSU Students only) can play with your student recreation fee. Remember to bring your MSU student id.

Facilities and Adaptive Recreation Options

Recreational Sports and Fitness Services has 3 on-campus buildings dedicated to recreational activities. Adaptive recreational opportunities includes working out in our fitness centers (just activate your membership) We also have open recreation opportunities such as, Goal ball, bocia ball, tandem cycling, table tennis, swimming, pickleball, badminton, blind soccer and sit volleyball.

IM Sports West houses our newest and largest fitness center on campus. The IM Sports West fitness center is equipped with free weights, an excellent set of pulleys that provides a nice safe upper body workout.  We also have a motomed which is designed for wheelchair users.  Wheelchair users do not have to get out of their wheelchair to use this machine.  It is possible to exercise arms, legs, or both at the same time.  This fantastic machine can give you updates on your performance during your work out.  The Motomed is located on the second floor of the IM Sports West fitness center.

The IM Sports East is also a great place to get fit on the East side of campus. This facility is well equipped with a fitness center, accessible racquet ball courts, and an indoor track. The IM Sports East fitness center is equipped with free weights, a Sci-Fit machine and a pulley system to help meet your fitness goals. We also offer the Nu-Step accessible machine in the fitness center as well as the Sci-Fit arm machine.

The IM Sports Circle is our oldest recreation facility on campus. In this building you will find gyms and a swimming pool.  The pool is equipped with a lift system.

Aquatics 

Adaptive swimming can take place at Michigan State University in all of our recreational pools. All pools have an aquatic lift used for accessibility into the water.  Floatation devices may be available if needed; ask the lifeguard for assistance.
