Spartan Summit Rules and Regulations

· All Climbers must have valid access to the space (MSU ID card or standalone climbing membership/pass).

· Listen to all directives given by MSU Climbing Staff.

· All climbers must have a waiver on file.

· All climbers must meet the minimum age requirement of 4 years old to climb, as well as properly fitting equipment.

· Personal climbing equipment is permitted but must be used within the manufacturer’s recommendations. Use of facility equipment is recommended. MSU Staff may disallow personal climbing equipment.

· All instruction/qualification must be performed by MSU Staff.

· Anyone wishing to belay must go through MSU belay qualification. MSU Staff reserves the right to revoke belay qualification at any time.

· Staff will offer courtesy top rope belay, but climbers are encouraged to become belay qualified. Only MSU qualified belayers are permitted to belay.

· Lead climbers and belayers must be qualified through MSU. Staff will not offer courtesy lead belaying.

· Technical climbing shoes are required to be worn while climbing. Other closed-toe, closed-heel shoes may be worn while belaying.

· No headphones/earbuds may be worn in the space.

· Be aware of other climbers in the space. Priority is given to climbers on the wall, followed by adaptive climbers, lead, top rope, and auto-belay climbers.

· No food or drink is allowed in the Spartan Summit other than water.

· Climbing under the influence of alcohol or drugs is not permitted.

· If a hold is loose, please notify staff. Do not attempt to move, tighten, or loosen holds.

· Climbers should avoid excessive use of chalk, and brush chalk off holds when finished.

· Notify a staff member immediately of any accidents or other safety concerns.

· Top Rope climbing is permitted where Belay Bars are installed.

· Be mindful of climbers on adjacent routes and communicate with others before climbing.

· Be aware of other climbers, your fall zones, their fall zones, and adjacent routes.

· Helmets are encouraged while lead climbing and lead belaying.
