Rules & Regulations

Field Dimensions: Played on Basketball court, end lines are out of bounds, and sidelines are out of bounds.

No Offside’s in 4v4 Soccer!

No Slide Tackling!

Goal Scoring: A goal may only be scored from a touch (offensive or defensive) within a team's offensive half of the field (Ball must be completely on the offensive half of the field: Cannot be touching the midline).

If a player in their defensive end kicks the ball across midline and the ball hits another player (offensive or defensive) and the ball goes in the goal, a goal will be awarded.

Restart after goal has been scored: At the center of the court.

The Goal Box: The goal box is directly in front of the goal. There is no ball contact allowed within the goal box, however, any player may pass through the goal box. If the ball comes to rest in the goal box, a goal kick is awarded regardless of who touched the ball last. Any part of the ball or player's body on the line is considered in the goal box and is an extension of such. Once the ball has broken the plane of the goal box, if the ball is touched by the defensive team, a goal will be awarded. If the offensive player touches after the ball has broken the plane, a goal kick will be awarded. The plane of the goal box extends upward.

Game Duration: The game shall consist of two 15 minute halves separated by a two minute halftime period. There are no timeouts during 4v4 games.

If the game ends in a tie (during the regular season) the teams will immediately go into a shoot out, starting with 3 people for each team, and then one at a time until the tie is broken and a winner can be recorded.

Playoff Overtime: Shall consist of a two, 3 minute "golden goal" overtime periods with a coin toss to decide kickoff/direction. The first team to score in overtime is the winner. If no team has scored in both 3 minute overtime periods, the winner shall be decided by a shootout. The kicks will be taken from half court with no goalie. The players will enter a rotation of penalty kicks alternating teams with each kick, with the higher scoring team winning after the first round. If the score remains tied after the first round of penalty kicks, the players will alternate in the same order in a sudden death penalty kick format until one team scores unanswered.

Penalty Kicks: Shall be awarded if, in the referee's opinion, a scoring opportunity was nullified by an infraction (the infraction does not automatically result in a red card). It must be the case that the player in possession of the ball had a clear path to score was denied the opportunity because of the foul. It is a direct kick taken from the center of the midfield line with all players behind the midfield line and the player taking the kick. This is a "deadball" kick. If a goal is not scored, the defense obtains possession with a goal kick.

Hand Ball Clarification: Deliberate handling of the ball that denies the opposing team a goal or an obvious goal scoring opportunity will result in the following: a penalty kick will be awarded & the player committing the foul will be sent off and shown a red card (at referee's discretion).

Player Ejection (Red Card): Referees have the right to eject a player from the game for continual disobedience or as a result of an incident that warrants sending off. The team may then continue with their remaining three or four players. Players that are red carded need to leave the immediate playing area, including the fan and team areas.

Five Yard Rule: In all dead ball situations, defending players must stand at least five steps away from the ball. If the defensive player's goal is closer than five yards, the ball shall be played five yards from the goal box, in line with the place of the penalty.

KickIns: The ball shall be kicked into play from the sideline instead of thrown in. The player must touch the ball with their hand before kicking it in.

Indirect Kicks: Kickins, kickoffs, dangerous play, having too many people on the field.

Direct Kicks: A team will be awarded a direct Free kick if the opposing team hands the ball, or fouls a player.

Goal Kicks: May be taken from any point on the end line.

Kick Off: May be taken in any direction.

Number of Players:  Four field players (A team must have a minimum of 3 field players).  Players may only play on (one) team per league. There are no goalkeepers in Spartyball. Coed teams must have a minimum of two female players on the field at all times (At least one to not forfeit and can play with 2 guys and one girl).

Substitutions: Substitutions may be made at any time, as long as the exiting player steps off the field before the entering player joins the game. This will be enforced by having to slap hands at the sideline and having to enter the court in the substitution zone which will be between the center line and 5 yards away marked with a cone.

Schedule Changes: It is the responsibility of the team captain to check the schedule and attempt to reschedule on IMleagues if there is a conflict.

Delay of Game: Any player may be cautioned with a yellow card if it is deemed by the referee that the player is intentionally time wasting. eg: if a player intentionally kicks the ball long distances away from the playing field in order to waste time.

Sportsmanship: Good sportsmanship is to prevail at all times.

Uniforms: The home team as listed on IMleagues (if your game is vs. the other team) will wear WHITE. The away team as listed on IMleagues (if your game is @ the other team) will wear DARK.
